Dr John Barletta

Since 1984 John has provided educational and psychological services. His career began as a teacher, then guidance counsellor, relationship educator, tenured senior university academic, and clinical psychologist, and included extended studies and work in the USA and Italy. He trained at QUT (DipT, GradDipCouns), ACU (BEd), UQ (MEdSt), OhioU (PhD), and APF-Rome (post-doc).

John is an energetic, down-to-earth speaker, author, and consultant who bases his work on specialised training, scientific research, clinical expertise, and lived experience. He has a passion for helping professionals, organisations, and associations challenged by various issues or seeking to improve wellbeing and performance. John promotes healthy living via the application of integrated positive psychology principles. His expertise includes keynotes and workshops. John is the recipient of Ohio University’s most prestigious George Hill Memorial Award, which recognises the outstanding scholarship, service and leadership of alumni. He is responsible for over 750 publications and presentations, is author of The Home Therapist and The Practice of Clinical Supervision, is the long-standing expert psychology columnist for Style magazine, and has been an occasional ABC Radio commentator on psychological issues.

When not hanging-out with family and friends, he kayaks, hikes, and practises yoga, struggles with golf, enjoys shed time, loves getting grimy in the garden or fired-up in the forge, craves overseas travel, and compulsively searches for the ultimate cannoli. With his novelist wife Dr Sandra Antonelli, they spend little time at their Brisbane base which they like, and most of their time at their Maleny property which they love.

It’s not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It’s the one that is most adaptable to change.
